Tammy and I had the chance to go to the Asheville, NC area and took the time to visit The Oconaluftee Visitor Center, (Great Smoky Mountains National Park) after our business was taken care of. We arrived about 5PM which would be the time the elk would make their way to the open field at the center. The park blocks off the right lane along the field for visitors to view the elk. We decided to view the area from the deck behind the Visitor Center. We were not able to stay long as we had a 3+ hour drive to return home.

While we were there, only one elk came to graze. Actually, we saw a second as we were leaving. I intend to go back and take more pictures of the elk. BTW, it is against the law to be within 60 ft of the elk. And they have been know to charge a car and do a lot of damage.
