I had heard about a neat nature site in a very unlikely place here in NC. This nature area is located in Raleigh’s Research Triangle Park. Perfect for those working in the area to enjoy lunch in a beautiful setting. We have had some really bad storms lately and as the sun was shining, Tammy, Jake and I decided to venture out to Lake Benz and see what we could find. I hate I didn’t take an overall view of the main lake and the bog area to the left of the lake. That area was filled with turtles of all sizes.

There were lots of birds flitting amount the trees. As I was wrestling with a new Monopod and Head, They would relocate before I could get a shot in. I saw several woodpeckers flying among the trees as well. The trees in a bog area were riddled with holes and I have heard there were many species of woodpeckers that make this area their home. Tammy and Jake had walked on a head and had me come to where they were. Sure enough, There was a rather large Pileated woodpecker enjoying what he could forage from a large hole in a dead tree.
