While visiting Engelhard, North Carolina, we took a day to explore the Outer Banks. My son Jon and granddaughter Morgan were with me and as they had never seen the lighthouses, we decided to make this a day trip. After crossing from the main land to the Outer banks, we traveled south to the first lighthouse south of Nags Head, Bodie Lighthouse. Most people think Bodie is pronounced “Bo di”. However, we learned from the locals it is actually pronounced “Bod e.”
